Birchbark Canoes

"The Race"
24" x 48", oil

Discarding caution, two Canadian "freemen" press the limits of their birchbark canoes in a race through angry rapids.   The canoe in the background is an Ojibway Long-nose and the foreground canoe is the Algonquin Old-style design.  These canoes reflect the zenith in design and construction of the birchbark canoe.
