“John Carson, great-grandson of Kit Carson”

John Carson: teacher, historian
and historical interpreter.

John is a familiar face at Bent‘s Old Fort
and most everywhere along the
western portion of the Santa Fe trail.
The elaborately decorated coat John is wearing is a replica he made from a coat that was gifted to Kit. John worked periodically over two years to replicate it.
The original coat is now in a museum.

I really enjoyed doing this oil sketch.
It is very satisfying to loosen up and paint freely.
