A Little Bacon, A Little Sugar, oil painting on canvas

"A Little Bacon, A Little Sugar"

Mr. Gene Taylor, a friend of mine, owned a ranch in Colorado where this cabin still stands.  It was the homestead of the Brazeltons and at that time it was very removed from any settlements.  Several times the notorious Ute chief Colorow -- a man of huge physical stature -- and his band visited the homestead demanding food.  Colorow's favorite delicacy was bacon dipped in sugar.  Brazelton would cut large chunks from a side of bacon then Colorow would dip them into a cup of sugar and consume them right on the spot.  Gene asked me to paint this scene and he came up with the title.
