Approaching The Outlet, oil on canvas

"Approaching The Outlet"

A most impressive sight was the Montreal canoe.  Measuring up to 36 feet length it was manned by 8 to 10 paddlers. Total carrying capacity was around 9,000 pounds.  The birchbark canoes of the voyageurs and the Indians varied widely in size, but all displayed truly amazing feats of craftmanship.
